Title: "When Spring Took You Away"

In blossoms of April, we said goodbye,
When cherry trees painted the sky,
Your eyes held tears like morning dew,
As spring whispered, "We're through."

I wish we'd parted in winter's gray,
When all was cold and locked away,
Not when life burst forth anew,
And hope was morning-fresh and true.

Now every spring brings memories back,
Of your smile along that garden track,
Of promises we couldn't keep,
And dreams too beautiful, too deep.

The cruel irony of that spring day,
When nature bloomed while love slipped away,
Each flower now reminds me still,
Of what we had, and what we killed.

I'm sorry that we chose that time,
When everything was in its prime,
To end what could have grown so strong,
Like spring itself - but we were wrong.

Now years have passed, but still I find,
These thoughts of you flood back my mind,
When spring returns with gentle rain,
I wish we hadn't caused such pain.

Perhaps in some far-distant spring,
When time has healed most everything,
I'll see the blossoms without tears,
And finally let go of these years.
